Whether you’re camping for the weekend or planning on staying awhile - there are several things you won’t want to leave behind. Luckily, camping at Lake LBJ isn’t like camping in the middle of nowhere (you have access to a few major stores should you forget something), but buying new equipment can surely add up. Obviously you probably won’t forget your tent, assuming you’re tent-camping, but what about the little things? Modern day camping has become much easier with newer technology and gear, but it still doesn’t eliminate the need for things like flashlights or first-aid kits.
- Bug Spray
Whether you’re hiking through the woods, on the water, or just walking through the campsite, insects are all around in the great outdoors. Spray on some insect repellant and you’ll be good to go!
- Sunscreen
You’ll probably want to throw a pair of sunglasses in the car, too, but you definitely don’t want to forget the sunscreen! The last thing you want to remember from your wonderful camping trip at the lake is that horrible sunburn you got. Don’t forget to reapply throughout the day!
- Firestarter (Matches or Lighter)
Since packs of matches and lighters tend to be small and easily lost, you may want to throw a couple extra in your bag before you leave home. After all, sitting by the campfire, roasting marshmallows, cooking, or just chatting is one of the best parts of camping.
- First Aid Kit
Just in case you get a scrape, blister, or burn, a first aid kit is always an essential item to pack. Think of the amount of people going with you and the nature of your trip - but, gauze, blister treatments, disinfectant, bandages (like band-aids), and gloves is a good place to start!
Don’t forget the most important items of all - chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers! S’mores, anyone?
