Don't Pass These Five Cottonwood Shores Restaurants By

After spending a long day on the water, chances are, you're starving, and you probably don't want to sift through Urbanspoon, Yelp, and TripAdvisor listings to try to find a restaurant that suits the wants of everyone in your party. That's where we come in. We recently published an article about five of the best restaurants in Horseshoe Bay and now we've set our sights on neighboring Cottonwood Shores, where we're sure that these five eateries won't disappoint:

1) On The Rocks

On The Rocks is nestled right along the eastern shore of Lake LBJ and that means that it's doing at least one thing right: providing guests with beautiful lake views. It's a good thing that On The Rocks' menu is handsome too! The restaurant is known for its classic Italian fare, but its menu actually boasts a good number of Southwestern and American dishes as well.

4401 Cottonwood Dr. 830-637-7417. Open Mon-Thurs 4 to 9 p.m., Fri-Sun 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Menu. Website.

2) Rick's Cow Town Barbecue

Carnivores, rejoice. Cottonwood Shores has an eatery for you -- Rick's Cow Town Barbecue. They supposedly serve the "best and leanest barbecue in the Hill Country," and if that doesn't win you over, we don't know what will.

3803 RR 2147 West. 512-755-3863. Open Wed-Thurs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Fri-Sat 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Menu. Website.

3) Julie's Cocina

Homestyle Mexican food enthusiasts also have a place in Cottonwood Shores. That's because Julie's Cocina is in town! Julie's serves Mexican and American food and even provides live music for guests every Saturday night.

4119 FM 2147 #1. 830-265-5804. Open Mon-Sat 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sun 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Menu. Website.

4) Saucy's

Saucy's started out as a family-owned catering business, but has since branched out into the restaurant sphere. Located along Hwy 2147, Saucy's serves meals from a number of different genres -- namely, Italian, American, International, and Mexican. Go on a Saturday evening for live music!

4005 Hwy 2147. 830-693-4838. Open Tues-Sat 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. MenuWebsite.

5) Granite Beach Grill

Granite Beach Grill is part of the Lake LBJ Yacht Club and Marina. This high end grill is only open on weekends, so call before you go to make sure you'll actually get a seat. Dining at the restaurant, which is said to be absolutely delicious, grants you access to the rest of the club. Stroll through the grounds, watch the sun set over Lake LBJ, and heck, visit the waterpark if its warm enough!

200 S. Wirtz Dam Road. 830-693-9172. Open Sat 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sun 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Website.

If you'd rather play things safe, you can always eat at Subway along FM 2147, but we've found that local restaurants like On The Rocks, Rick's Cow Town Barbecue, Julie's Cocina, Saucy's, and Granite Beach Grill are often much more satisfying. Happy dining!

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

FAIR. Water stained; 74 degrees; 0.27 feet below pool. Crappie are fair in 10-20 feet of water on brush piles with chartreuse jigs. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service. Bass are good with a few fish on beds, but there are still plenty in the backs of pockets so use shallow moving baits like a wake bait, swimbait or frog to get some of those good ones. Skipping docks is always a good way to load the boat too using a weightless wacky worm or a jig to get some good bites. Do not forget to run the bulkheads with a shallow crank, fluke or frog. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs.
