Celebrating the Holidays by the Lake

The holidays in Austin are unlike the holidays anywhere else. While some people are shivering in the cold and trying to plow through the snow, Austinites are busy celebrating in their own way. If keeping Austin (and surrounding communities, too, of course) weird is a goal of ours, we take it to the next level during the holidays.

So instead of sitting inside this season, take advantage of the weather we’re lucky to have in central Texas! Here’s how to celebrate the holidays by the lake even when you trade your swimsuit for a jacket.

Take A Walk Along The Boardwalk in Austin

If walking along the Boardwalk Trail on Lady Bird Lake during the summer is fun, you haven’t experienced anything yet! Picture walking along the mile-long boardwalk on a perfectly crisp, winter day. Take in the gorgeous skyline and the holiday decorations glittering the nearby residences.

Go On A Boat Tour

Few things are more magical than coasting through the lake with a drink in one hand, and the person you love curled up next to you. Enjoy the season by bringing a blanket and your favorite drink- then, from the beautiful views of the water, soak up the sights of the Hill Country at night!

Pack Some Hot Cocoa & Cuddle Up

Finally, the best part about being in the beautiful Hill Country during the holidays is getting to share it with the beautiful people around you. If you’d like to be low key while still getting your festive fill, grab a blanket, a loved one, and a cup of cocoa and pick the perfect viewing spot! Or if being rustic isn’t your thing, hit up one of the many restaurants around Lake LBJ serving up specialty chocolate drinks this season.

So appreciate the fact that we don’t have to stay indoors and spend your holiday at the lake! But, don’t blame me when your entire family is jealous!

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

FAIR. Water stained; 74 degrees; 0.27 feet below pool. Crappie are fair in 10-20 feet of water on brush piles with chartreuse jigs. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service. Bass are good with a few fish on beds, but there are still plenty in the backs of pockets so use shallow moving baits like a wake bait, swimbait or frog to get some of those good ones. Skipping docks is always a good way to load the boat too using a weightless wacky worm or a jig to get some good bites. Do not forget to run the bulkheads with a shallow crank, fluke or frog. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs.
