Burnet Bluegrass Festival

It wouldn’t be a weekend without live music entertainment - right? Luckily, being located so close to Austin, Texas, there isn’t any shortage of live music around here.

In fact, this weekend there is a one-day Bluegrass festival being held in Burnet (at the Haley Nelson Amphitheatre) on Saturday. The best part? It’s free! There’s no cost for admission and you’re more than welcome to bring along coolers and seating.

Artists:

You may catch a few other bands, but the main attraction on Saturday is Flatt Lonesome Band. If you’re into bluegrass, you’ve likely heard of this 6-person band before. If you haven’t, you’re in for a real treat!

Fiddlers Contest

Along with some incredible bluegrass music, at the 2nd Annual Burnet Bluegrass Festival you’ll also get to hear a competition between skilled fiddlers. Come and cheer on your neighbors and friends (and other festival-goers) who enter the contest!

The contest officially begins an hour after gates open - 10am. (Gates open at 9am). The top 10 fiddlers win a cash prize - with first place taking home as much as $500. There are also numerous categories by age, so there are multiple chances to win!

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

FAIR. Water stained; 74 degrees; 0.27 feet below pool. Crappie are fair in 10-20 feet of water on brush piles with chartreuse jigs. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service. Bass are good with a few fish on beds, but there are still plenty in the backs of pockets so use shallow moving baits like a wake bait, swimbait or frog to get some of those good ones. Skipping docks is always a good way to load the boat too using a weightless wacky worm or a jig to get some good bites. Do not forget to run the bulkheads with a shallow crank, fluke or frog. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs.
