3 Things to Watch For Around the Water

Swimming makes for a great time, especially at Lake LBJ! But when you’re swimming, water safety always comes first. So below we’ve listed three things that you should watch for when you’re in and around the water. We hope you have a blast out on the lake as the summer comes to an end, and that you remain safe!

When you’re in and around the lake, watch out for…

Those Who Can’t Swim

They’re easy to spot, those who don’t know how to swim. It’s important that everyone who doesn’t know how to swim wears a lifejacket, and that you have proper equipment on your water craft (a buoy, a pole, etc) if that’s what you’re up to! But even if you’re just swimming at the shore, keep an eye out. You never know what might happen.

What’s Below the Water

If you can’t see what’s underneath the water, be weary of rocks, roots, and creatures! If you want to be really safe, we recommend wearing water shoes or sandals around the lake that will help protect your sensitive feet. Of course, you don’t need to be fearful of the water. You just need to be cautious!

Other Swimmers and Water Craft

When you’re swimming in the lake, or out on the boat or jet ski, it’s highly important that you keep an eye out for other people who may be doing the same thing. Boat accidents happen, and can definitely be avoided. Follow all boating rules to the T and you should be all set! We’re only warning you because we want you to have the best time possible!

The sun is hot out there on Lake LBJ! When you’re out swimming, boating, jet skiing, etc, be sure to wear plenty of sunscreen and drink tons of water! Stay hydrated, stay safe, but have a blast!

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

FAIR. Water stained; 74 degrees; 0.27 feet below pool. Crappie are fair in 10-20 feet of water on brush piles with chartreuse jigs. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service. Bass are good with a few fish on beds, but there are still plenty in the backs of pockets so use shallow moving baits like a wake bait, swimbait or frog to get some of those good ones. Skipping docks is always a good way to load the boat too using a weightless wacky worm or a jig to get some good bites. Do not forget to run the bulkheads with a shallow crank, fluke or frog. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs.
