Lake LBJ spans over 10,000 feet wide and runs 22 miles long, touching three cities on the outskirts of Austin. You can not only access the waters in Marble Falls, Horseshoe Bay, and Kingsland, but you’ll find some of the finest fishing (amongst many other activities) in Texas along the shores. Plus, with March just around the corner, we’re coming into the perfect season to catch some of the most beautiful white bass around Lake LBJ.
Fish You’ll Find
We already know that the spring and fall months are ideal conditions for luring in white bass (not to be confused with striped bass), but that’s not the only bass you may encounter. In fact, largemouth bass are quite popular as well.
While Spring may be the perfect time to bring home a bass (or three), that doesn’t mean you won’t find other species around here. Lake Lyndon B Johnson is actually known for its crappie population. Between both white and black variations, the crappie fishing you’ll find on Lake LBJ is the best in any of the Highland Lakes chain.
Last - but certainly not least - we can’t forget about the catfish. As we get further into the warmer months and the water temperatures begin to rise, you can expect to start seeing (and catching) more catfish around here. While the size of the catfish has decreased over the last several decades, you can still count on finding a decent catch - somewhere between 15 and 40 pounds - when you reel in a blue cat, yellow cat, or channel cat.
