Spontaneous Vacation Destinations: Lake LBJ Edition

Summer is in full swing, friends! It’s time to get out there, explore, and see where the season takes us! Are you looking forward to some time off from work? Are you ready to plan your next vacation? Then take a glance at these popular vacation destinations around Lake LBJ in Austin, Texas! We know you’ll enjoy each and every one of them; hopefully you can cram them all into one summer!

Inks Lake State Park

There are plenty of activities offered at Inks Lake State Park. There’s hopefully an activity for everyone in your group! What are the options when it comes to fun? Well, you can kayak, canoe, backpack, hike, camp, or just sit back and obverse the gorgeous nature around you. That’s right: sparkling waters, shady forests, everything. You’ll love it, we just know.

Longhorn Caverns State Park

Not far from Inks Lake State Park, is Longhorn Caverns State Park. This beautiful limestone cave makes for a wonderful tourist attraction! But there’s quite a bit of history behind it. Before it became a tourist attraction, it was used by the Indians, outlaws, and was also a speakeasy during the prohibition period! Interesting, right?

Wine Tours and Shopping

For those of you who aren’t all about going out (we know; we’ve been there), there are other activities you can partake in! Plenty, actually. Wine tasting is one of them. Try checking out Fall Creek Vineyards and see what it’s all about! Or spend a day of fun shopping around downtown Austin! Either way, you’re bound to have a blast. There’s something here for everyone.

We hope you have a blast touring these places around Lake LBJ this summer. Don’t forget to bring along your camera to capture all of the fun, adventurous moments! And as always, stay safe!

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 21)

GOOD. Water stained; 75 degrees; 0.24 feet below pool. Crappie are good in 18-24 feet of water with jigs and minnows. Catfish are good in 20-25 feet of water with punch bait. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service. Bass are good on docks and bulkheads in 3-10 feet of water. Skipping a light jig or Texas-rigged fluke or worm will get you bit well in those spots. Some fish are deeper on rock and brush piles in 10 feet of water. Flip a soft plastic in those areas to get good bites. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs. As we enjoy a weekend of fishing we salute and honor our Nation’s heroes this Memorial Day. Anticipate increased recreational boater traffic this weekend.
