Keeping Cool While Camping This Summer

Well friends, it’s already that time of year! The sun is warming us all up rather rapidly these days, and summer is right around the corner. If you’re heading out into the wilderness this season, we advise you to first make sure you’re following these five guidelines!

Pack Plenty of Water

This one should be a given, but it’s still the most important! When you go camping this summer, bring plenty of water with you. And certainly don’t be afraid to drink it! Stay hydrated and cool out there on the lake!

Bring an Adequate Cooler

Bring a cooler that will keep your food and beverages cold for a long time, in extremely hot temperatures. When facing Texas heat, you want a cooler that’s going to hold up during your camping trip.

Set Up Fans Around Camp

Don’t be shy; bring your box fans with you! There are all kinds of fans available and most of them can be brought with you. Setting them up around camp will help keep everybody cool and comfortable! They also help to dry your towels after you’ve gone swimming!

Go Swimming

Speaking of swimming, it’s a great activity for cooling off and having a blast at the same time! So don’t forget to pack your swimsuits and towels, and when all else fails, take a dive into Lake LBJ! We’d love to see you out on the water.

Go Boating

There’s nothing like wind in your and on your face to cool you off. Plus, you can anchor your boat, and jump off whenever you’d like a swim! Take your family out on Lake LBJ and give them a day they will cherish forever.

Whatever you’re out there doing on your camping trip, we hope you have a fun time on Lake LBJ! And that you stay plenty cool, of course! Don’t forget your water, your towels, and sunscreen! And remember to take a photo or two, to capture the memory.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

FAIR. Water stained; 74 degrees; 0.27 feet below pool. Crappie are fair in 10-20 feet of water on brush piles with chartreuse jigs. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service. Bass are good with a few fish on beds, but there are still plenty in the backs of pockets so use shallow moving baits like a wake bait, swimbait or frog to get some of those good ones. Skipping docks is always a good way to load the boat too using a weightless wacky worm or a jig to get some good bites. Do not forget to run the bulkheads with a shallow crank, fluke or frog. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs.
