Lake LBJ Real Estate has so much to offer we do not often mention the incredible wildlife in the area. The constant level lake naturally attracts an abundance of wildlife. The birds alone could easily fill a book of information. A large variety of ducks and waterfowl live on Lake LBJ year round. Loons, swans and geese are very common. My favorite are the herons. Blue and Grey Herons are incredible fishers. The tall, lanky birds are often seen capturing and swallowing a fish whole. In flight, they truly resemble the great creatures of the dinosaur era. All areas around Lake LBJ include abundant deer. It is a normal occurrence to have bucks, doe and fawns taking a nap in the shade of a tree right in your yard. Llano County is known for a multitude of large ranches and hunting leases. The City of Llano is known as The Deer Hunting Capital of Texas. Other common creatures around the water include opossums, raccoons, and my latest discovery, ring-tailed cats. The ring-tailed cat is actually a member of the raccoon family. These incredibly cute animals are naturally curious and nocturnal. Based on my research, they are rarely seen and usually travel alone. However, I have 4 that are regularly visiting a large oak tree in my backyard at night. Naturally, Lake LBJ is an incredible location for fishing. The main species include bass, crappie, sunfish and a variety of catfish. Don't be surprised if you catch a few turtles as well. Some residents are a little annoyed by the abundance of wildlife and the evidence of their presence left around local properties. I find the incredible nature to be nothing but entertaining. Except for the time by dogs were skunked a few years ago. My best advice is to definitely avoid leaving any food outside.
